The Diversity Conference Dinner at the Summer Palace
Venue: Tingliguan - Hall for Listening to the Orioles
Date: Friday 1st July, 2005

• Court Food in Tingliguan

Court Cuisine originated from the Chinese imperial kitchen, which cooked food for the emperor and his family. After the fall of the Qing Dynasty, some chefs from the imperial kitchen opened restaurants in the capital to entertain the grassroots people with the special food that had once only been eaten by the imperial family.

Tingliguan (Hall for Listening to the Orioles) Restaurant in the Summer Palace is one of the most famous restaurants for making court food. It serves more than 300 dishes and pastries from Qing and Ming imperial recipes. The "All-fish Feast" is the restaurant's specialty. The fish is caught in Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace. The fish is cooked in a unique way. When the fish is served on the table, its mouth is still opening and closing and its gills are flapping. Diners should not be frightened because it is really dead, but the chefs have worked their culinary magic on the fish.

• After dinner all delegates will be taken on a boat ride on Kunming Lake inside the Summer Palace.

• The dinner ticket cost includes all transfers to and from the Summer Palace, dinner and boat ride.

• Delegates are welcome to book additional dinner tickets for accompanying family and friends.
