The paper that will be presented investigates the prevalence of diversity management in Australian organisations and how the policies and procedures of diversity management have been adopted by Australian and international firms operating in Australia in the period 1995-2005. This research has identified and examined the benefits of such an approach for successful firms. Ms Burns will discuss the range of approaches that have been adopted internationally and how Australian firms have selected appropriate approaches for their business models. The paper will highlight areas of further research and investigation that could be completed in this field.

I am Economics teacher, working in a school with students from a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Having completed a B.Arts (majoring in Economics) and B. Teaching, I am now pursuing my interests further by completing an Honours thesis in the field of Diversity Management. I have also worked in the area of educational assessment, ensuring that national assessment tasks were accessible by all students. My current educational focus is adapting numeracy, literacy and Economics tasks to meet the cultural needs of students.
