While "diversity" is a characteristic of Europe, the concept "Managing Diversity" has not yet been discovered by many employers. Beside American-owned companies in the EU, only few companies have set up diversity policies, especially in Austria. The new EU legislative framework on discrimination and Equality in Employment (2000) provides the concept with powerful legal competencies and the issue is no longer a "soft option". The last few month have been in a new spirit of efforts to combat discrimination and to stimulate pro-active, anti-discriminating HR-policies. In consequence, substantial investigation were undertaken and a series of initiatives is being launched supporting relevant actors in labour market policy. This presentation will give a brief presentation of first empirical findings, an overview of innovative projects in the European context and examples of Good Practices in Austria.
